Autism Signs and Symptoms

This is a story of my son Sammy. Sammy was formally diagnosed of autism in February of 2005 when he was 3-years and 10-months old although I began to notice that something was amiss when he was only about 18-months.

I built this site is to tell you what I'm doing for Sammy as he has dropped most of his previous autistic behaviors and he continues to get better. I really hope that it will help your child also. Believe me, I know how you feel. I've been there.

Here are some of the autism signs and symptoms that Sammy once displayed:

  • Gazing into space
  • No eye contact
  • Completely ignoring us calling his name
  • Turning away when we tried to hug him
  • Spinning himself and wheels of toy cars
  • Fascination with wheels and cars
  • Oblivious to the world around him
  • Lining up cars all facing the same way
  • Not knowing how to play with toys
  • Spitting and playing with water
  • Running away from visitors
  • Indifference to danger - kept running whether we were following him or not
  • No language whatsoever - not even one word
  • Stubborn
  • Repetitive, stimming behaviors
  • Prefer to "play" alone
  • Insisting on sameness - same route, seat, etc.
  • Never pointed
  • Flicking light switches on and off
  • Watching TV all day
  • Not knowing how to alternate steps when going up or down the stairs

This pretty much tells you that Sammy had some 90% of autistic characteristics.

But what exactly does it all mean to you as a parent? It means that you have lost your child some where along the way. He is physically living in your house, but is not mentally there. It means that he doesn?t care what the rest of the family doing or going this weekend. Most of all, it means that you need to bring him back!
